Opera in Turin — Teatro Regio Torino 2027

Turin's operatic life centres on the Teatro Regio — a house with an unbroken history stretching back to 1740 and a reputation for programming ambition that consistently exceeds what the city's size might suggest. Arturo Toscanini conducted Wagner's Italian premieres here in the 1890s. Puccini chose this house for the world premiere of La Bohème in 1896. The tradition of programming opera at the highest level has never been interrupted.

The 2025/26 season — themed Rosso — opens with Zandonai's Francesca da Rimini (a work premiered on this same stage) and includes a new production of Verdi's Macbeth conducted by Riccardo Muti, the first Turin staging of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, and closes with Bellini's I Puritani and Puccini's Tosca — both new productions. For visitors to Turin, the Teatro Regio offers world-class opera in an architecturally extraordinary building in the heart of the historic centre. All current and upcoming productions are listed above.
