Theater & Opera in Turin — 2026 - 2027
Turin's theatrical life is anchored by the Teatro Regio Torino — one of Italy's great opera houses, opened in 1740 and rebuilt to Carlo Mollino's unique design in 1973 after the original building was destroyed by fire in 1936. The house premieres ten opera and ballet titles each season, commissions four new stagings per year, and attracts conductors and directors of international standing. The 2025/26 season — themed Rosso — includes Riccardo Muti conducting Verdi's Macbeth, the first Turin staging of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, and the season closing with Bellini's I Puritani and Puccini's Tosca.
For visitors to Turin, the Teatro Regio offers an operatic experience at a price point and in a setting that rivals the major Italian houses — La Scala, La Fenice, the San Carlo — with a programming identity that is genuinely its own. The building itself, with its extraordinary facade and distinctive auditorium, is worth attending for the architecture alone. All opera, ballet and concert productions are listed above.
