What to Expect from Shen Yun 2027

Shen Yun Performing Arts creates a new stage production each year, built around classical Chinese dance and stories drawn from China's history, legends and traditional culture.

Rather than following a single continuous narrative, the programme is formed by a succession of shorter pieces. Large ensemble dances alternate with story-based scenes, while costumes and choreography reflect different historical periods and regions.

Music is performed by a live orchestra that combines Western orchestral instruments with traditional Chinese instruments. Another characteristic element of Shen Yun's staging is its use of animated digital backdrops, designed to extend the action beyond the physical stage and connect performers with projected landscapes and settings.

Because the programme changes from season to season, the Turin performances present Shen Yun's 2027 production rather than a fixed show repeated unchanged from previous years.

Teatro Regio in Turin

The performances take place at Teatro Regio, one of Turin's best-known performing arts venues. Situated beside Piazza Castello in the historic centre, the theatre has a main auditorium with approximately 1,582 seats, most of them arranged across the descending stalls, together with a ring of boxes.

Its distinctive shell-shaped auditorium was designed so that the architectural lines converge towards the stage, creating a setting particularly suited to productions combining dance, orchestral music and large-scale visual elements.

Teatro Regio also has an important place in Turin's cultural history. The original theatre opened in the eighteenth century, while the present building was inaugurated in 1973 following the destruction of the earlier auditorium by fire.
