Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, Turin's football home since 1933

The stadium on Via Filadelfia opened on 14 May 1933, built in eight months as the Stadio Municipale and later known for decades as the Stadio Comunale. Torino and Juventus both played here until the move to the Delle Alpi in 1990; after years of disuse, the ground was rebuilt for the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics, whose opening and closing ceremonies it hosted, and renamed Stadio Olimpico. In 2016 it took its current name in honour of the Grande Torino, the legendary 1940s team. It has been Torino FC's home ground since 2006, with a football capacity of around 28,000.

Sectors

The bowl is divided in the classic Italian way: Tribuna Granata (main stand, west), Distinti Granata opposite, and the two ends — Curva Maratona, the traditional home end beside the stadium's landmark Torre Maratona tower, and Curva Primavera. For concerts, the pitch opens as a standing area (prato, often split into front and rear sections) with numbered seats in the stands; stage position means some curve sectors are not used.

Getting there

The stadium is in the Santa Rita district, about 3 km south of the centre and next door to the Inalpi Arena. Tram 4 runs along Corso Unione Sovietica from Porta Nuova station, tram 10 along Corso Agnelli from Porta Susa, and bus lines 14, 17 and 63 stop by the ground; the nearest stops to both venues are around Corso Sebastopoli. Allow extra time after full-capacity events, as trams fill quickly.

FAQ

Is this the stadium where Juventus plays? No — Juventus plays at its own stadium in the north of Turin. The Olimpico Grande Torino is the home of Torino FC, though both clubs shared the old Comunale for decades.

How many people does it hold? Around 28,000 for football; concert capacity varies with the pitch layout of each show.

What is the Torre Maratona? The tower beside the Curva Maratona, part of the original 1933 complex and the stadium's most recognisable feature.
